WASH in Sri Lanka

A baseline project in Gampaha

The Sulabh School Sanitation Club, an affiliate of Sulabh International, launched its baseline project in Sri Lanka on 12 June, 2026, through a Capacity-Building Training Workshop on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and the refurbishment of period-friendly toilets in schools across the Gampaha District. The project was made possible through a strategic partnership with the India-Sri Lanka Foundation (ISLF), reflecting a bilateral commitment between India and Sri Lanka to advance public health, address gender vulnerabilities, and modernize public institutional infrastructure.

The Gampaha initiative combined infrastructure upgrades, including refurbished period-friendly toilets and improved handwashing stations, with structured training for students and teachers on WASH practices and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), building life skills and encouraging lasting behavioural change.
