Sanitation in Thimphu

Thirty years of public sanitation

The Sulabh Toilet Complex at Thinsphee T. C., Thimphu, was constructed and maintained by Sulabh International Social Service Organisation for a period of thirty years, commencing on 13 May 1992.

The facility was established to provide essential public sanitation and bathing services, to promote personal hygiene, and to improve public health and cleanliness in the area. It reflects a commitment to accessible sanitation and to community welfare.

Inside schools, we rely on girls themselves.

The Sulabh Sanitation Club is a girl-led movement in which young people promote hygiene and menstrual health among their classmates. Clubs run in Bhutan and Nepal, and in South Africa, where a school committee piloted ownership of its own toilets and sanitation.
